FAQ - Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning
Obviously the quicker you can get to the pet urine the better. Use absorbent paper towels or cloth (preferably white to avoid colour transfer) to soak up as much as possible. If you have a wet/dry vacuum cleaner (never use a standard vacuum cleaner) you can remove as much moisture as you can with this. A very small amount of diluted white vinegar sprayed or carefully poured (do not over wet) can also assist. Its best not to leave the vinegar in the carpet so you should absorb this again with paper towel or a cloth or your wet/dry vacuum. If you have wool carpet then it is very important to have the urine completely removed within 48 hours. After this time the urine has a very high chance of causing wool burn which will leave you with a permanent yellow/orange stain. Wool burn is caused because the urine turns from an acid to very high alkaline salt within 48 hours and this alkaline is what causes the problem. A-Team are specialists at pet urine removal so if you need us out there ASAP give us a call.
Unfortunately its not that easy for the average person to remove urine smells. There’s a couple of reasons for this. #1 is that the urine turns into whats called a uric crystal and inside this crystal is the bacteria which causes the odour. This crystal needs to be broken down first to be able to then treat the bacteria inside. So its a 2 step process using very specific chemistry. #2 Reason is that urine usually settles into the underlay of your carpet and in worst case into your subfloor. The average person doesn’t have the equipment necessary to treat the areas and successfully extract them from that deep down. A-Team are fully trained in urine odour removal and have the right equipment to do the job properly.
Absolutely they can. The exceptions to this are urine on wool carpet that has been left for 48 hours or more. The other occasional exception is a pet that is on certain types of medication or a food diet that contains certain food colouring (but these cases are very rare). We successfully remove nearly all pet stains we come across

How often should I get my carpets cleaned when I have a dog or cat or inside pets?
We suggest that when you have inside pets you should have your carpets cleaned every 8-12 months mimimum. The main reason for this is pet dander (dead skin cells). This is a leading cause of human allergies & irritation to pets. Regular steam cleaning helps to keep this to a minimum.
Nearly all lounges and upholstery can be cleaned. Manufacturers most commonly recommend steam cleaning (aka Hot Water Extraction aka HWE).
